Business Health Check
The business health check process is similar to an overdue visit to a hospital consultant. It involves a ‘patient history’ … patient examination … tests and scans … and a discussion of the symptoms and day-to-day realities. It ends with a ‘treatment plan’ and actions to be taken by the patient, friends and family, and other professionals … and follow-up by the consultant.
The business health check is booked by a Business Owner, Company Director, or Entrepreneur - where they think the business is “unwell”; e.g. we’re making a loss … or there’s a missed opportunity; e.g. we know how to do ‘X’ but haven’t sold any this year - AND the business owner or director wants to do something about it.
Preparing for yourBusiness Health Check
To make the most of our time together there will be some pre-consultation homework about your numbers … in the form which you usually use day-to-day; e.g. Excel Spreadsheet or Xero Report. I may also ask for some specific data – after I’ve carried out an initial online data search.
The Consultation
There’s then a ninety-minute to two-hour meeting between you and me, during which almost every aspect of the business is discussed. Challenges are addressed. Opportunities are explored. Importantly, “the first step” is agreed upon for each particular area—the aim being to identify the precise points of concern and to start down the road to solving those concerns, i.e., each ‘illness’ and the ‘treatment plan’ for that illness.
The consultation will result in a ‘treatment plan’ which comprises a series of actions to be taken – and an appropriate timescale for each one.
